Uschi Digard (born 15 August 1948 in the near Stockholm town of Saltsjö-Duvnäs in Sweden and raised in Scandinavia^[1]) is a Swedish former softcore porn star and model best known for her roles in Russ Meyer films.

Early years

When asked of her childhood, she has said:

I was born in Saltsjö-Duvnäs, a little town outside Stockholm, Sweden, and am of Swedish/Swiss heritage. I was sent to a boarding school with nuns at an early age because those were the best schools in the country and I was pretty promiscuous as a little one -- not with men, but with books. I loved reading and at age 6 I decided I wanted to learn languages because I couldn't stand reading books that had been translated -- they lost the essence. By age 7 I had read every book in the little village library.^[1]

Digard's breasts started developing at a young age, about which she commented:

When I started to develop at 11 I had to strap myself in, because it wasn't seemly to have breasts, and we all wore uniforms. By age 15 I was a 40DD.^[2]

Before her acting career, Uschi worked briefly as a translator in the jewelry trade where she developed a knowledge of German, Italian, Spanish, the three Scandinavian languages, French and English.^{[citation needed]}

Career

Softcore breakthrough

Digard burst into cinema in Sweden where she starred in several erotic films, although these would not be considered pornographic by modern standards^{[citation needed]}. In 1966, she returned to the U.S. where she soon began appearing in numerous sexploitation movies and pornographic magazines.

She was among the best known big bust models in the late-1960s and early-1970s. Her film roles toward the end of this period occurred at an interesting time in the porn industry as films transitioned from softcore to formulaic, minimal plot hardcore. Many of these movies had well-developed and bizarre plots such as the cult film Ilsa, She-Wolf of the SS or Female Chauvinists in which Uschi and a gang of lesbians rob a sylvan sperm bank in a surreal dream scene.

Her heavy Swedish accent is heard in a brief speaking part in Cherry, Harry & Raquel!. One of her most extensive speaking roles was in 1970's softcore sex comedy Getting Into Heaven.

Digard was cast in Russ Meyer's Cherry, Harry & Raquel! to provide the dénouement in a final interpretive dance scene symbolizing the death of the antagonist. This plot devise was necessitated after the lead actress left the shoot early and 20 minutes of footage was needed to complete the film. She soon became a favorite of Meyer whose obsession with "well cantilevered" women is legendary. Digard would go on to appear in three more of Meyer's films in the 1970s. She was an associate producer in two of his films (as well as in another sex comedy). Digard and Meyer's relationship was reportedly never intimate.

Her most mainstream appearance is considered to be in John Landis' 1977's The Kentucky Fried Movie as Woman in Shower in the segment "Catholic High School Girls in Trouble".

Porn career

Uschi Digard never had sex on film. However, she later appeared in several pornographic movies with porn superstars such as John Holmes, Candy Samples, and Kitten Natividad during what is sometimes known as Porno chic or the Golden Age of Porn from 1975 to 1983. By porn standards the period was marked with creative scripts and high production values, when movies were intended for cinematic release rather than direct-to-video and performers were not threatened by AIDS.

In those years she starred in some "sexy wrestling" short-footage films too, mainly for Triumph Studios and Ron Dvorkin's Bellstone; quite memorable remains her "clash" with another "big boobs" famous model, her close friend Candy Samples in 1980's Battle of the Bosoms.

Later years

As of 2006, Uschi Digard is married and lives in Palm Springs, California.^{[citation needed]}
