Troublemaker Studios is a production company owned by filmmaker Robert Rodriguez and his ex-wife, producer Elizabeth Avellan. Originally founded as Los Hooligans Productions, its releases include Once Upon A Time In Mexico, the Spy Kids trilogy and Sin City. Rodriguez plays a large role in the day-to-day operations of the Austin, Texas-based company. More information about the company can be seen in a featurette titled Inside Troublemaker Studios, included on the Once Upon A Time In Mexico DVD. The company's most recent release was the 2007 Robert Rodriguez/Quentin Tarantino double feature Grindhouse; Sin City 2 is also upcoming.

Troublemaker Studios' facilities are located at the former site of the Robert Mueller Municipal Airport in Austin, utilizing several former aircraft hangars and offices. There is a large green screen stage as well as smaller practical sets. The facility also houses production offices, construction shops and other functions vital to the production of a feature film. Troublemaker Digital, Rodriguez's visual effects company, is housed at the facility as well.

A second facility, Troublemaker Sound, is located in the hill country outside of Austin. It provides post-production sound and editing facilities. This includes a full mix/dub stage powered by a large Pro Tools installation, and a full Avid Unity-based editing system.

Los Hooligans Productions

Los Hooligans Productions was the original name of the production company founded by Robert Rodriguez and Elizabeth Avellan in 1991. The name was borrowed from Rodriguez's own comic strip Los Hooligans which he illustrated for three years while at The University of Texas at Austin. When it was time to come up with a name for a production company, Rodriguez decided to use the name of his popular strip so fans would recognize it.

The studio was responsible for the release of El Mariachi, Desperado, The Faculty, and the From Dusk Till Dawn trilogy.
